Team Chana Wins STEAM Day Cook-Off
Congratulations to Dorian Gonzalez (6) and Dylan Cunin (6) for winning the first-ever STEAM Day Cook-Off at Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy.
The sixth-grade students’ Famous Chana recipe was voted the best dish between three competing teams. The esteemed judges panel included Principal Dr. Damon Lewis, Assistant Principal Evan Byron and Dean of Students Ashley Glaude.
The first edition of “Ponus Chop’t” was hosted by Ponus Garden Committee members Rida Deura (6), Sebastian Maya (6) and Fahendra Aurelus (7).
The winning recipe was a mix of chickpeas, cilantro, Jamaican curry powder and other ingredients to be served with warmed pita. All the fresh ingredients used in the competition were from the Ponus Ridge Garden. Click here for the winning recipe card.
Gonzalez and Soto faced off against Jeremy Polanco (7), Dylan Godoy (7) and Giovanny Ruiz Ortega (7), who made a Sigma sauce, and Zaire Williams (8), Keith Bowen (6) and Yahir Carillo Cabezas who made a Spring sauce.
Dorian and Dylan’s winning recipe will be served at lunch during our STEAM Day on April 26.
STEAM Day will include an engineering design challenge where students will design water filtration systems, culminating in a school wide competition at the end of the day. Students will also take student-led tours of the garden and complete garden related challenges.
Be sure to catch the next exciting edition of Ponus Chop’t!
