Ponus Ridge
On March 19, Ponus Ridge Steam Academy partnered up with Milestone C to host the second annual STEMwave Day!
STEMwave is an educational movement focused on creating Schools of the Future by connecting K12 schools with the Industry through cutting-edge learning experiences designed with the leading experts.
This year’s event featured three interactive areas for students to explore STEM initiatives showcased by STEMwave experts and Norwalk Public Schools students and staff.
Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Ponus Ridge were divided into three groups to better experience and explore the different exhibits which included creating music with the use of AI, making helicopter balloons and much more!
In the school gymnasium, students had the chance to try out many activities including a flight simulator, making paper airplanes and testing how far they could fly, and taking control of drones and robots. Representatives from Scuba Tech also featured their 3D mapping technology and Diver-ROV operations that the company uses to discover ocean secrets.
Ponus Ridge students also had the opportunity to interact with students and staff from Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School and West Rocks Middle School as well as take a closer look at the STEM projects happening in their own classrooms.
Ponus Ridge also partnered with the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce to organize speakers from the Norwalk Leadership Institute and other community members to speak to students about different careers, professions, and industries.
